GANGESHWAR MAHADEV - HATHIDARA The Gangeshwar Mahadev Temple is situated at Hathidara, a village 22 km from Palanpur. The temple stands in scenic surroundings alongside a check dam with the river flowing nearby. It is believed that an ashram of Rishi Chyavan, a contemporary of Lord Shri Ram, existed near the temple. A number of sages lived at this ashram, which extended right up to Hathidara. While the Pandavas were in exile in the forest, they built a Shiva temple, which was later renovated and restored by the Parmar kings of Abu. Since this area of the forest was regularly frequented by elephants it was named Hathidara. Every year a large fair is held at the Temple on the last Monday of Shravan which is attended by large numbers. The temple has facilities for stay and food.
